I found the writing superb. I suspect folks who check out his book are going to be mightily pleased they did. Clayton Lindemuth, author of the Baer Creighton series Darkness: A Collection of Stories provides a literary collection of investigations into the darkness of mind, heart, and environment. It uses this focus to cast a light into understanding the wellsprings and incarnations of different forms of darkness. Each story provides history, depth, and psychological inspection. Each offers a different glimpse into that special darkness that resides in heart and soul, its origins, and the choices of different characters that choose to finally confront it. Readers of literary short fiction will find these stories well written, thought-provoking examinations of different roads to isolation and how final outcomes are chosen. Darkness: A Collection of Stories is highly recommended for literature and psychology collections alike. In his definition, he states darkness isn’t just a lack of light. It is caused by fear, hate, loss of love, and even vengeance. The contents are short tales that include distinct characters and vivid descriptions meant to evoke an emotional response. Dubhghlas Kraus was capable of making me feel the emotions of the people in every story. Every story is complete, with vivid details that allowed me to connect with and see the views of every person. I recommend this book to young adult readers that are interested in short stories that ask: “What would I do if I were facing the same instance?” This is an exemplary collection of short stories that unequivocally deserves a perfect 5-star rating. These were beautifully written stories with characters so real that you feel their emotions, in heartbreakingly realistic scenarios. There was love, humor, courage, sorrow, and hope. There was suspense that grabbed hold and kept me reading to find out what was going to happen next (it was never what I anticipated!), and scenes that had me in tears. I hope to see more from this author! Six tales. Believable characters in all- too-real scenarios, each experiencing their own darkness. Stories told with feeling, love, and humor. The writing was exceptional for a first- time author and the stories kept my interest. Wonderful stories full of feelings you won’t forget! Excellent book. Great book. Highly recommended. I really can't pick a favorite of these stories as they all tug at my heart. The author writes so well I am looking forward to everything else he will write! I suggest a box of tissues should be within reach ‘cause if I teared up you are likely to also. The author balanced the darkness in these stories with the light of humor and grace. His characters seem so real . . . I love the author’s writing and can’t wait for more stories. Thank you Dubhghlas! ❤ The author writes with heart about these subjects and draws us into the character's lives so that we experience the pain, the illness, and the horror along with the protagonists as well as joy as they see a light at the end of the tunnel that is their darkness. The author's descriptive style paints a vivid picture of every character and inserts you, the reader into the story. The stories have a unique variety of substance and characters and are intriguing, captivating and entertaining. I absolutely fell in love with the characters in these stories, the bad guys as well as the good guys. Even though they're short standalone stories, Kraus's character development was extremely well done, and the stories themselves evoke emotion and deep thought.
